Starting Your Day With GodSample
Morning Topic: God’s Steadfastness
Yesterday, I promised you another “God is––” statement. Well, here it is: God is steadfast.
This word isn’t used very often anymore, but it is one of my favorites. Merriam-Webster defines it as “firmly fixed in place; not subject to change” and “firm in belief, determination, or adherence.” Some common synonyms are immovable and loyal, but I would add in immutable and persevering––two of God’s star qualities.
Unpredictability can be exciting, but it causes stress. God offers us peace by many means; one of them is by being stable, consistent, and absolutely reliable. Though we sometimes do, we never have to wonder if He still loves us or if He still reigns over all Creation. He is the perfect foundation for a solid structure. No quakes or cracks will interfere with something built on Him.
Routines are the foundation of our days. Christ is the foundation of our best and most important routines. A morning routine of waking up to God’s love, peace, sovereignty, and steadfastness is a solid pillar that will never buckle under the weight of life. Stress and sorrow might try to topple it, but it will not move because of the solid foundation beneath it.
Some people like to be unpredictable and change things up every day. It’s exciting and freeing, but I think those people end up starting from scratch every day. They have to make big decisions about their day from minute one, beginning with: Will I wake up now or in ten minutes? To me, that sounds exhausting and detrimental to my productivity and mental stamina.
In the moment, I will want to sleep. Making that decision takes more energy than simply rising out of bed when my alarm wakes me. In the interest of saving my decision-making energy for more important matters, I rely on routines to bring me through the beginning of my day. That is, I want to rely on routines. It’s a work in progress.
In the interest of doing more in our days, doing them better, and doing them for God, I implore you to have a morning routine centered around God and His Word. Meditate on His character. Remember who you are to Him.
Now, set out to do all He has for you today, knowing He will always love you, give you peace, and reign over you. Maybe that’s His daily routine.
