Hope in God!

DAY 6 OF 15

A Living Hope

A common saying goes: ‘While there’s life, there’s hope.’ This saying gains a whole new meaning in Jesus Christ.

The apostle Peter says believers are “born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead” (1 Peter 1:3). The apostle Paul says the same: “If in Christ we have hope in this life only, we are of all people most to be pitied. But in fact Christ has been raised from the dead” (1 Corinthians 15:19-20).

Jesus paid the price for humanity’s sin. By dying in our place, He conquered “the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil” (Hebrews 2:14). His resurrection proved that death has lost its sting. Christians don’t need to fear death anymore, since they have received eternal life. They have a living hope, even when dying — that makes all the difference. After all, physical death is unavoidable for us humans, so if we have promises for this earthly life only, this would be a very meager hope in the end. But the Bible is all about life after death and about “an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, who by God's power are being guarded through faith” (1 Peter 1:4-5).

Do you have this living hope?

About this Plan

Hope in God!

For many people, “hope” is something positive but also something uncertain. If we hope for something, we are not sure whether it will happen. However, the Bible teaches us that there is a source of hope that is absolutely certain and trustworthy — God's character and promises. This reading plan is about hope from a Biblical perspective.
