Life Not Going as Planned? How to Get Unstuck and Trust God Now!Sample
There is nothing better for a weary soul than a well-said word. On an expedition to Africa, the reporter, Henry Morton Stanley, became sick with a fever. He had the Bible and old newspapers to read while he lay in bed, but he noticed a difference between the words in the Bible and the words written by the newspaper journalists. Here is what he said:
The one reminded me that apart from God my life was but a bubble of air, and it bade me remember my Creator; the other fostered arrogance and worldliness. The Bible, however, with its noble and simple language, I continued to read with a higher and truer understanding than I had ever before conceived. Its powerful verses had a different meaning, a more penetrative influence, in the silence of the wilds. I came to feel a stronger glow while absorbed in its pages, and a charm peculiarly appropriate to the deep melancholy of African scenery.
The words Stanley read in the newspapers were put together by professionals. They knew how to write in a convincing way that would influence their readers. But the words of Scripture truly shined because of their simplicity and power. As Stanley recovered from his illness, he admitted the greatest comfort and healing could be found in the words of the Bible.
All of us get mentally, physically, and spiritually weary from time to time. In these times, it is easy to turn to the words on TV, the radio, a favorite book, newspaper or magazine, or even the words of a friend for comfort. The words we hear and read from these sources may help us temporarily take our minds off of our immediate circumstances, but they cannot bring healing for our weariness. Only the Words of God can do that. The pages of Scripture are the only place where we can find real help in our times of need.
Are you tired? Have you been hurt by another person’s careless words or actions? Perhaps you have been dealing with mental anguish because of the loss of someone or something important to you. Get into the Word of God. Read verses that will apply to your specific situation, and you will be comforted. No other word will help you.
Action: Make it a priority to read God’s Word every day.
