Exalting God

The setting of Revelation 19 is the Second Coming of the Lord Jesus Christ. In this passage, the Lord is exalted as the One worthy of all glory and power and as One who reigns. He is acclaimed for His judgments, which are just and true. The Lord Jesus manifests Himself as One sitting on a white horse. The Lord is called Faithful and True. He is described with eyes like a flame of fire and with many diadems on His head. He is the One being called the Word of God. On His robe and on His thigh, He has a name written: King of Kings and Lord of Lords. What a revelation of God Almighty we see in chapter 19 of the book of Revelation, one portraying a conquering Lord! But this chapter also presents the marriage of the Lamb. It is noteworthy to mention that the Bible begins with the union and marriage of one man and one woman and ends with the marriage of the Lamb and His Bride.  

Praises resound. The word “Hallelujah” is repeated several times as the highest expression of triumph. We see a triumphant God being exalted for His just and true judgments. We read of multitudes, with voices like the roar of many waters, crying out “Hallelujah,” which in Hebrew means to praise God. This exaltation is mostly an acknowledgment that God is a just, powerful, and triumphant God.

The kind of worship we read in this very well-known passage is a result of those multitudes recognizing who God is—His greatness and His power. Praise, worship, and exaltation are foremost an acknowledgment, an admittance of the truths of God being fulfilled.

Exalting God is a form of very high praise, one that can only come from the spirit of one who has received a revelation of who God is! “God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth” (John 4:24 ESV). Jesus tells the Samaritan woman that she worships what she does not know (verse 22). Therefore, we must know God first to be able to worship Him. We can also find Jesus stating in John 10:30, “I and the Father are one”. If we come to know the Son, we will know the Father. To know the Son, the Lamb of God, is to know the Father also.
