The Garden of Your Mind

DAY 3 OF 10

Romans 12:2 is the most quoted verse when we think about renewing our minds. And it’s brilliant.

It teaches us that if we want to discern God’s perfect will for our life, we FIRST need to give permission for the Holy Spirit to inwardly transform us into who we are called to be through a total reformation of how we think. Which means we need to stop embracing and conforming to the standards and values of this world and quit trying to model our behaviour on everyone else.

This verse doesn't say

Be transformed by trying to do better

Be transformed by passing the responsibility of your thinking onto someone else!

Be transformed by asking God to eradicate things out of your mind

Or be transformed by renewing your emotions

Nope. This verse tells us to embrace the ownership of our mind: YOU renew it!

You and I have been given all the spiritual tools to renew our minds as we demolish every argument that sets itself up against the knowledge of God in our minds and take captive every deviant thought and make it obedient to Christ (2 Corinthians 10). You have His Spirit and His Word, His empowering grace, prayer, your mouth to declare truth, journalling, other women around you to support you, a church community where you can learn and be real. You are not helpless. You are victorious!

I have learned an important lesson in my ongoing journey with my mind. And it’s this: I can only dig up old, faulty thoughts and rewire my thinking patterns IF I am in partnership with the Holy Spirit. Because His power takes you to a place of grace, belief in yourself and it has the capacity to defeat those strongholds of thinking that are rooted deep in your life.

Invite Him into this journey. He can do more than you could ever hope or imagine…

What negative pattern of thinking do you see in you that you want to break?

Take some honest time with God and open up your heart about it.
