"Reset My _______"

DAY 21 OF 30

Reset My Affections

Jesus has just finished sharing a section about how His followers should live in the world and what should be their defining marks. Now, He shifts to talk about what true surrender looks like.

And He starts with one of the hardest things to talk about in the world—money. He tells two stories to illustrate one point, found in verse 13:

“No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.”

Now, don’t read this wrong—Jesus doesn’t hate money. He’s not saying, “You can’t have a good job and make money.” What He’s saying is more like, “I hate it when chasing after money keeps you from chasing after Me, because I know money will never satisfy you like I can.”

Most of us need to ask Jesus to reset our love of money. Whether we consider ourselves poor or rich, we can fall into the trap of running after money instead of running after God.

As you read through this passage, look at how Jesus talks about money. And ask God to reset your affection toward money.
