DAY 15 OF 20

"Treat others the way you want to be treated," is probably a lesson you learned when you were young, and for good reason! But this isn't just good advice on how to be a nice person. This is actually the foundation of loving others — something Jesus commands us to do. He tells us to love others like we love ourselves. And for those of us who follow Jesus, he also tells us to love others like we love God. John, one of Jesus' disciples, makes this even clearer when he tells us it's actually not possible to love God if we don't love others. If we don't love the people around us, it's proof that we don't really love God.

If we say we love others, but don't actually do anything to act with love, then all we have are empty words. Love isn't about warm, fuzzy feelings. Love isn't something that happens in your head or even in your heart. Love is something that must be demonstrated in your actions. Jesus demonstrated his love for you not just by saying it over and over again, but by giving up his life and dying for you. You probably won't need to go that far to show someone love, but what do you think God might be asking you to do?

What's one way you've been shown love through someone's actions? Who is someone you can love with your actions today?

About this Plan

With You

Friendship might feel easy when life is easy, but it gets more complicated when your friends are hurting or struggling. What should you do? What should you say? What should you not say? When our friends need help, there are no easy answers, but in this 4-week devotional series from Grow Curriculum, we'll see what Scripture invites us to do when others are grieving, lonely, in need, or feeling hopeless.
