LEAD WITH CHARACTER
What characteristics do you desire to lead by? This is something we should consistently be mindful of as we continue in our leadership and personal relationship with Christ. We will be challenged time and time again in the area of character.
In order to get deeper into character, we must look at the spirit in which we live by. Godly character can only be established by the spirit of God—the Holy Spirit. It requires us to look into the word of God and see what Godly character looks like. Godly character is having a godly perspective. There are two areas we can glean from to learn and develop our godly character: the book of Proverbs and the life of Jesus, found in the Gospels. Wisdom and humility are both required in developing character.
Proverbs 9:10 says, “Fear of the Lord is the foundation of wisdom. Knowledge of the Holy One results in good judgment.”
Wisdom tells us what God agrees with, what He desires, and it gives us perspective that leads to good judgment. Humility requires us to be humble enough to do what wisdom is telling us, even if we don’t fully agree or understand. Philippians 2:4-5 states, “Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too. You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had.” Humility and wisdom were Christ’s attitude and that’s how we grow as a leader and develop godly character.
Our sinful nature is still around, and in order for us to overcome it daily, we must walk in the wisdom of God. God will teach us and lead us in fairness, kindness, respectfulness, trustworthiness, and loyalty.
So as we continue this journey in leadership and life, and become more aware of our character, let's ask God for His wisdom in these areas. Again, I ask you, what godly characteristics do you desire to lead by? It’s important to lead with character.
