Surviving Dark Seasons: You Are Favored, Not Forgotten

DAY 4 OF 7

Obscuring Our Deepest Needs

Everyone who is called by my name, whom I created for my glory, whom I formed and made.
Isaiah 43:7 (NKLV)

Do you find yourself questioning what’s it all about? Like really, does it have to be this difficult to become so blessed? It’s pretty simple; God created us with a purpose—that purpose is to glorify Him.

Ask yourself, what exactly are your deepest needs? Beyond things like money, a miracle weight-loss pill, and free cable TV, try pressing deeper into the spiritual realm. In creating us, God imparted four needs deep into our temple where the Holy Spirit resides. They are love, security, significance, and purpose.

God’s original plan was to satisfy each of those needs beyond our imagination. Unfortunately, Adam and Eve’s attempt to be God-like by tasting the forbidden fruit created a separation from God and thus our pursuit for external gratification began. Obscurity highlights our need for these needs.

LOVE

Because God is love, the relationship with Him is based on the highest form of love—agape. It is not a tough stretch to understand the concept that God loves us beyond compare, and that through His ultimate love, we can know, experience, and enjoy the satisfaction of being loved.

SECURITY

Where do you find security? Most people we speak with first think about the financial security to provide for their family and then physical security to protect them. These are all important on a temporal level, but once we move into a season of obscurity, we discover these anchors might either be the problem in our current situation, or have been diminished, replaced, or severed as we move through obscurity.

SIGNIFICANCE

Tied closely to our materialistic desire for security is significance. External gratification comes through material objects, such as the car we drive or the neighborhood where we live. Can you see how fleeting that is for meeting your internal need for significance? As a child of God, we are so much more significant than what we drive or what others refer to us in our job. We are kings and priests:

PURPOSE

Purpose has mystified those without one and sustained others who have discovered theirs. There is a new purpose in your next season of activated anointing. If we continue to cling on to what once was, then we remove God’s purpose from becoming our purpose.

Here are seven things to do for pursuing God’s purpose in your life:

  1. Pray
  2. Read God’s Word
  3. Identify Gifts and Strengths
  4. Pursue Passions
  5. Engage Others
  6. Take Time Out
  7. Trust God

CALL TO ACTION

How do you seek to satisfy your four deepest needs by worldly versus spiritual standards?
