JESUS IS OUR GUIDE 

Whitewater rafting is an adventure! Riding a raft through fast, rough rapids down a river can be exciting and frightening.

When rafting down the river, it’s important to have a guide. And it’s super important to let the guide lead! Without the voice of the guide shouting when to paddle and not paddle, you might go the wrong way or even lose complete control and fall out of the raft. The guide is there to keep you safe.

Our lives can be a little like a whitewater adventure. And the best way to safely get through the fast, rough rapids of life is to listen to our guide, Jesus. 

In Matthew 8, Jesus told His disciples that He wanted to cross to the other side of a lake. So they all got into a boat and sailed away. Everything seemed to be going just fine until a huge storm came. The wind started blowing fiercely and water started crashing violently against the boat. 

The disciples found themselves smack in the middle of a storm, and they were terrified. But Jesus was sleeping. He wasn’t concerned at all. In fact, He told the disciples not to worry, and He quickly calmed the storm.

When we begin a relationship with Jesus and follow Him, there will be both amazing parts on our journey and some tough parts. But if we allow Jesus to be our guide, we’ll find safety in the uncertainty and calm in the storms of life.

Ask yourself: When can it be hard to follow Jesus? How can you keep moving forward and trusting Him as your guide?

Challenge yourself: Jesus is our guide on this adventure called life. When we have a relationship with Him, we shouldn’t keep it a secret. We should talk to our friends and family and share our story with them. Sharing your story could help others find a relationship with Jesus, too.

Pray: God, thank You for being our guide. When things in our lives are good, You are there, and when things are tough, You are there. Thank You for always being with us. Amen.
