JESUS IS LIGHT

Light. It helps us see where we’re going, what we look like, and the many colors of our bright, beautiful world. Without light, there would be complete darkness. 

Have you ever been in a completely dark room, cave, or tunnel? How did it make you feel? Trapped? Scared? Alone? 

This darkness can describe a world without Jesus. Without Him, we would be trapped in our sin — our darkness — with no way out. When we follow Jesus, we live life His way, and He is the light that guides us out of darkness.

In John 8, Jesus was at a big festival in Jerusalem called the festival of the tabernacle. A huge part of this festival was the lighting of large lamps that lit the entire temple area. People gathered in the light to sing praises to God and dance. 

Right in the middle of this, Jesus told the crowd that He is the light of the world and anyone who follows Him will never walk in darkness but will have the light of life.

You see, when darkness surrounds us, light is what gives us direction so we can find the right path. Light is our security and helps us feel less lonely. When we follow Jesus, He is that light. 

Ask yourself: Who is someone you follow? What does it mean to follow Jesus? Why is life better when we follow Him?

Challenge yourself: Jesus was a real person who came to earth to show us how to walk in the light of life. If you don’t already have a relationship with Him, talk to someone about what that means! Or if you do, take steps to learn more about Him — continue to read your Bible, pray, and worship Him.

Pray: God, thank You for sending Jesus, the light of the world, to earth to make a way for us to have a relationship with You. Because of Your love for us, we can follow Jesus into the light of life, and we’re so grateful for that. In Jesus’ name, amen.
