Luke: Exploring the Life of JesusSample
DAY I // LUKE PRESENTS HIS ACCOUNT
Imagine that a friend sent you an article they found online about a really unusual thing that happened in another country. How would you decide if it was real or not? You’d probably ask yourself: does it give accurate details of the event? Were there eyewitnesses? Is this an unbiased article? And of course, are there other articles online that I can find that give a similar account of the event that would help back up the story I am reading? If you could answer “yes” to all of those questions, you could feel confident that what you are reading is actually true.
As we begin the first chapter of the book of Luke, we see Luke talking about eyewitness accounts and careful investigation. Throughout the book, we discover lots of specific details about real people and places, and unbiased reporting (even if it makes Jesus’s disciples look bad!). Luke makes a point of making sure we know that what he has written is reliable, accurate, true, and completely life-changing!
DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:
Q1 // What are some things you would look for to know if Luke’s gospel is reliable or not?
Q2 // Why are eyewitness reports important when considering the truth about Jesus?
Q3 // Why do you think Luke wrote down a detailed biography about Jesus?
Q4 // If Luke’s gospel is true, how does that affect the way you read it?
For Next Time: Read Luke Chapter 1-3.
