To Obey is Better Than to Sacrifice
And Samuel said, “Has the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to listen than the fat of rams.”
1 Samuel 15:22 (ESV)
Do you remember the time you had an exciting conversation with a friend and neither of you could get a word in edgeways? I found out that when God gives us a command, there is always a reason and He wants to tell us more. I always get very excited when receiving directions, and rather than seeking God further, I try to understand using my own wisdom. I thank God that He is always waiting for me to stop and to listen to Him.
Prayer:
Father in heaven, I pray that You help us to listen and to obey Your commands. Help us to seek You for understanding rather than to rely only on our own understanding. Keep us on the straight and narrow way. I thank You for Your gracious love that looks at our hearts. So that even if we try and fail to follow Your commands, You are there to help us. In Jesus' name, Amen.

About this Plan
The book of First Samuel describes Israel’s transition from theocracy to monarchy. God granted the Israelites’ request by asking Samuel, the last judge, to anoint Saul as king while warning them of the cost of a monarchy. Due to Saul’s disobedience, God resolved to replace him with David as the successor. Saul’s life gives us an important spiritual lesson: to obey God is better than to sacrifice for him.
