Through the Bible: 1st Samuel

DAY 1 OF 10

Be Ready To Hearing God’s Voice

And the Lord came and stood, calling as at other times, “Samuel! Samuel!” And Samuel said, “Speak, for your servant hears.”
‭‭1 Samuel‬ ‭3:10‬ ‭(ESV‬‬)‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬

When God called young Samuel into His service as a prophet, it was during the dark spiritual times of Israel. The word of the LORD was rare because the people’s hearts were hard, and the LORD knew they would not listen. Samuel heard God call three times in the night but he did not recognize His voice. The scriptures say Samuel did not ‘yet’ know God (1 Sam 3:7). Upon realizing through Eli’s direction that it was God’s divine calling, Samuel was ready and willing to hear the word of the LORD, to obey the call on his life to do God’s bidding, as a prophetic voice to the people of God.

Christ’s call may come to us in the same still small voice. He is looking for a listening ear, a trusting heart, and a willing spirit that is ready to say “speak LORD, Your servant is listening”.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, let not our hearts be hard, open the ears within our soul to hear You speaking, keep us spiritually alert. We revere You, trust You in faith, ready to obey Your living voice. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Day 2

About this Plan

Through the Bible: 1st Samuel

The book of First Samuel describes Israel’s transition from theocracy to monarchy. God granted the Israelites’ request by asking Samuel, the last judge, to anoint Saul as king while warning them of the cost of a monarchy. Due to Saul’s disobedience, God resolved to replace him with David as the successor. Saul’s life gives us an important spiritual lesson: to obey God is better than to sacrifice for him.
