Discernment to Defeat Your EnemySample
What You Cannot See Can Hurt You
The enemy tries to create strongholds in our lives by using those who are closest to us. If you are unaware of this scheme, you can allow generational curses to afflict you. This can happen even when those curses have nothing to do with you or are not a result of what you have done. You must renounce the curses and ask God to bring freedom to you and the generations that follow you. Finding freedom from generational curses can be as simple as making a declaration that your allegiance is no longer to your family line or to those who came before you. Declare that you and the generations who follow are now linked to God and His plan for your life, for your children’s lives, and for your children’s children’s lives.
For some, the negative ties to one’s family lineage can be so strong that they might need to employ extra steps of faith to sever them. Enlisting prayer from others, fasting, or battling spiritually against any evil strongholds might be required to keep you from repeating the undesirable patterns of your ancestors. Prayer invites the supernatural into the natural, and I believe it is the most powerful Christian practice there is.
God calls Himself a jealous God who is eager that His people remain loyal to Him. Many of the customs passed down through generations are not of God. Those evil practices, however, do not have to be our story. I often pray for God to start my family lineage with me because I am a first-generation Christian. I pray for all those who come after me to be blessed and used by God—and not the evil one. We do not have to subscribe to ungodly advice or practices that are taught to us, nor do we have to inherit the curses of our ancestors.
What family practices might have influenced you spiritually but are not of God? What kind of interaction have you had with enchanters, psychics, spiritualists, mediums, or even something as “simple” as a horoscope? What effects do you see from these influences?
What you believe forms your life, so it is important to take a personal inventory and establish what it is you are truly rooted in.
