DAY 7 OF 7

Most of us have been chasing the perfect body weight, the perfect spouse, the perfect job, and the perfect life. We’ve looked far and wide, taking advice from moms, friends, and Oprah, yet we still have this aching emptiness inside. We sense we are made for something better, but we’re not sure where to start.

The mistake we’ve made is thinking perfect satisfaction can be found in a new object or fresh experience. But perfection can only be found in the perfect person, Jesus Christ. You may find temporary enjoyment in a cute dress, a spa day, or a bigger paycheck but the lasting peace and purpose you desire can only be found at the foot of the cross.

The good news is this: Jesus is enough. Because your exhausting daily pursuits will never reach to heaven, He made another way. He sacrificed His own life to pay for your sin. And now He waits for you recognize it. When you do confess, repent and turn to Him, He gives you grace, and His grace makes you perfect.

When Jesus commanded you to be perfect as the Father is perfect, He wasn’t espousing a self-help program through your own exhausting efforts. He was asking you to pursue and commit to Him, and with the empowering help of the Holy Spirit, to live a life of excellence and holiness. Hebrews 12:1-3 states, “Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith…so that you may not grow weary or fainthearted.”

In essence, He was encouraging you to chase Perfect.

You can eat all the kale,
buy all the things,
lift all the weights,
take all the trips,
trash all that doesn’t spark joy,
wash your face and hustle like mad,
but if you don’t rest your soul in Jesus,
you’ll never find peace and purpose.
