Some of us are going through hard things right now. We feel exhausted. Our hearts are dry. Our souls are restless. Our hope is gone.
Fortunately, God is in the business of speaking life back into us.
Ezekiel the prophet was taken by the Spirit to a valley of very dry, dead bones. God told him to speak to those dead bones…and they would come alive. So he did. And immediately flesh began to appear on the bones and they came together. They had form, but they had no breath in them. Then God did what only God can do.
He breathed life into them. Calling together the four winds, God whispered and spoke life back into the dead bodies.
Left to our own accord, we are merely bones and flesh and have no life in us. But God is able to make all things new again. In Ezekiel 36:26-27, God said, “I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. And I will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees” (niv).
Notice that God puts His Spirit in us not so that we can go do whatever we want—but so that we can walk in His ways. So that we can worship and love Him forever.
The bones that came together after Ezekiel spoke to them have something in common with our hearts. They appear to have form, but they are void of life and meaning. Until God breathes into them.
So even though you may feel exhausted and restless, don’t give up hope. God still breaths life into those who love Him, and often at the most unpredictable times.
