Love God Greatly: Jesus Our EverythingSample
The picture painted in Hebrews 2:1 is that of a boat floating away from a dock. If a boat is not tied properly to a dock, the boat will drift away with the current of the water or the force of the wind, even in a calm, still environment.
The same is true for us. As humans, we do not naturally drift toward God. The author of Hebrews wanted his audience to remain steadfast in their faith. He warned them not to drift back to the old ways of Judaism, to a gospel based on works. Because of the work of Christ, because He is superior to the angels, because of His essence, because He is the Son of God, we no longer have to worry about the payment for our sins.
The Old Testament Israelites believed the message of God was communicated through angels and they believed the message. But now, Christ has come. Christ is superior to the angels. Because faithful followers of God believed the message of the past, how much more should we now believe the message when it comes from God Himself?
The truth and message of the Old Testament is confirmed through Jesus Christ. He is who He says He is. He will do what He promised to do. As we live lives of faith, we must remain tethered to Him, careful to do not drift away, for He alone is the way to salvation.
Lord God, You have made the way to salvation clear: it is only through Your Son, Jesus. Help me remain steadfast in You. Do not let me drift away. Put people in my life to keep me accountable to remain close to You. I want to remain in You all my days. Amen.
