DAY 7 OF 11

Pride and Arrogance

Proverbs 16:18

Pride leads to destruction. A proud attitude brings ruin.

After Solomon passed away, his son named Rehoboam became the king. Some people came to Rehoboam and requested for their workload to be lightened. Rehoboam said he would get back to them with an answer in 3 days. In the meantime, Rehoboam asked for some advice from the wise elders in his kingdom. They suggested him to give a kind answer to the people and to grant their wish. However, Rehoboam rejected the wise advice from the elders.

Then he turned to his young friends for advice and they suggested him to speak harshly to the people and make their workload even heavier. He chose to listen to the youngsters. He wanted to show the people that he was more powerful than his father, Solomon. He was so arrogant and prideful.

Being arrogant is having an extreme form of pride about yourself. Being arrogant and prideful is a sin. Eventually, an arrogant person may think that he is better than God. He tends to forget that God is the one who created him and gave him their talents and abilities. Arrogance and pride will destroy us, thus let’s be humble.

Prayer

Dear God, forgive my arrogance and pride. I want to guard my mind and heart from pride by acknowledging You in all of my ways. Amen.
