Innovating in an Isolated WorldSample
DAY 5 - Dealing with Disappointment
Innovation is often breaking through failures and dealing with those disappointments along the way.
As Winston Churchill once said,
“Success is the ability to move from one failure to another without loss of enthusiasm”.
If we find ourselves feeling disappointed, or we feel like we are off course, we need to change our perspective and see the bigger picture.
The bigger picture is that God has a plan, and that He knows what is best.
As humans, we place value on ‘things’, and sometimes build up expectations for specific opportunities. We want those doors open. We want that specific job, or that specific relationship, or that specific opportunity. So, when those doors are closed, we can be left feeling disappointed or discouraged.
But God has not placed value on the things we have.
Whilst it may look like we have lost, or what we wanted has been taken away, God places value on the things that remain.
We serve a good God, who wants to give us good things.
So, amidst the trials, we should trust that if it is good, He will give it to us, and if it is not, He won’t. Therefore, even in the middle of storms, we can be confident that we still have the victory.
God’s favour is upon us and our lives. It is not on the things we have, and definitely not on the things that we have lost.
As T.D. Jakes writes,
“Could it be that the Lord hides next season’s harvest in what we have left?”
We need to trust that God has a plan for us. Just because the road doesn’t seem familiar, it doesn’t mean that God is not in it. In fact, God can work through it, and turn it into an opportunity of success and turnaround.
In this season of waiting, rest in God's promises and trust His goodness. Overcome disappointment with gratitude because it's the attitude that makes life worth living.
Questions:
(1) How can you live with an attitude of gratitude in the midst of disappointment?
(2) What are some ways you can work on your character in this season?
(3) What is in your hand that you could use today?
About this Plan
A 6-day study from the Hillsong Young Adults program 'The Neighbourhood' looking at how we can innovate in an isolated world. Whether we are in our careers, our studies or our day-to-day living, God has a unique purpose for us. This plan was written by one of our incredible Young Adult leaders, Sym Yeow.
