What does the resurrection of Jesus mean for the world?

Jesus’ resurrection proves that God’s Kingdom has come just as he said and that through faith in him, anyone can be set free from the power of sin and death.

Jesus’ resurrection created a brand new world with new possibilities.

That is, after all, the story the Gospels tell, though it is just as staggering to us today as it was to the ones who witnessed Jesus’ life, death, and even his resurrected body.

At the end of Matthew’s Gospel, we’re told that the resurrected Jesus is now in charge of the whole world and that we’re called to announce that message.

At the end of Luke’s Gospel and the beginning of Acts, we’re told that the resurrected Jesus pours out the Holy Spirit as evidence of God’s new world, and that this Holy Spirit can make us new, give us the life of heaven, and empower us to live God’s kingdom here on earth.

At the end of John’s Gospel, we’re told that the resurrected Jesus breathes on the disciples–just like God had done when he first created Adam and Eve–as a sign that God was freeing us from the bondage of their original sin and that Jesus was remaking God’s world.

And in many more ways, the Bible tells us that Jesus’ resurrection launched God’s Kingdom or new world, and that Jesus gave us the gift of the Holy Spirit so that we can begin living in God’s new world now.

Spend some time in prayer today and ask God to fill you more and more with his Holy Spirit so that he can use you to spread his kingdom and good news to a world that is hurting and captive to their sin.
