Redemption

DAY 1 OF 7

How did Jesus save God’s people?

Jesus died on the cross to pay for our sins, resurrected from the grave to give us new life, and ascended to Heaven to reign as our King.

Think about it for a moment. If you only had a few minutes to talk about Jesus with someone else, what would you say? For example, if you were on a short elevator ride and someone asked you what you believed, how would you talk about your faith?

Paul summarized the good news—the Gospel—in several places. But one time he did it he broke it into four main points: (1) Jesus was crucified for our sins, (2) he was buried in a tomb, and (3) he rose from the dead, (4) and it was all in accordance with the Scriptures.

But what if you’re talking to someone—a family member or a friend or an acquaintance—who doesn’t know anything about God, about the Bible, or about Jesus? What would you say? And how would you relate it all to the death and resurrection of Jesus, which is the heart of the good news?

Here’s an example that might give you some ideas:

As Christians, we believe in a God who loves the whole world. In fact, we believe in a God who loves the whole world so much that he sent his own son, Jesus, to die for our sins. God raised Jesus from the dead so that everyone who puts their trust in him can have brand new, eternal life.

It’s not perfect, but you’ll discover that nothing completely expresses the wonder of God’s love for us. But you get the idea: the essential Gospel is about God sending his own son to save us and to give us eternal life. That’s what Jesus’ death and resurrection are all about.

Of course, how you share the Gospel in different contexts and to different people can be challenging. But God is faithful, and if you are willing to ask him to give you the words and tell people about Jesus, God will do the rest.

Do you have someone in your life who needs to hear the good news of Jesus? Spend a moment today praying for boldness, wisdom and the right opportunity to speak to them about Jesus.
