The New Testament in 90 DaysSample
Introduction to First Timothy
Paul is believed to have written to Timothy around A.D. 63. This would be his final series of letters, including the ones to Titus. These were considered pastoral letters as he was offering practical and pastoral wisdom to young Timothy, who was pastoring the church in Ephesus.
First Timothy is full of instructions for church leadership and how to organize it. Timothy spent years traveling with Paul and they grew to have a father/son type of relationship. Paul even refers to Timothy as “my true son in the faith” (1 Timothy 1:2). He encouraged Timothy to set a good example with his character and integrity because the older Christians were struggling to follow Timothy’s lead due to his youth.
