DAY FIVE: Loneliness
When I arrived in the United States in 1990, I started to criticize myself for leaving my family, my profession, my friends, and my home church and coming halfway around the globe to an unknown situation. But I decided neither to isolate myself nor to let bitterness take residence in my mind. I decided to work two jobs and also not to miss church. I helped friends paint their houses and took care of the elderly, even though I had no clue about caring for disabled people.
Do not isolate yourself when life is hard and hurtful. Pray as Jesus prayed when He was in the Garden of Gethsemane, when all His disciples left Him by Himself in the hands of the enemy. Remember, Gideon isolated himself when he felt inadequate, saying (in effect), “I am nobody.” But God sent His angel and lifted him from obscurity. Elijah was lonely in the cave, but the presence of God came to him there.
Confess your situation, and talk to the Lord throughout the day. Stay connected with your heavenly Father. He can be your closest friend and comfort you. His presence will come to you where you are. He is involved in your life, even when you are discouraged.
