Our Inheritance
Numbers 26:52
“The Lord said to Moses, ‘The land is to be allotted to them as an inheritance based on the number of names.’”
1 Corinthians 13:13
“And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.”
Just as Israel received an inheritance in the land promised to them, so also we have received an inheritance in the kingdom of God. We possess that inheritance by faith, first for salvation and then for everything that God calls us to do and to be. We possess our inheritance by faith expressed in risk-taking obedience. The fullness of our inheritance will only be experienced in heaven; like Moses, we can see that reward at a distance. However, it is this hope of eternal union and unbroken relationship with God Almighty that strengthens our faith. As we possess our inheritance by faith, we receive and live in the love of God. This love is what we respond to at salvation. This love marks us as citizens of God’s kingdom and fellow heirs with Christ. Love transforms all we do and all we are into worship of our loving God. We possess our inheritance in God’s kingdom through faith, hope and love.
Lord Jesus, you are my inheritance and your Spirit is the deposit that guarantees what is to come. Thank you.
