The Power of God
Luke 5:4, 6
“…he said to Simon, ‘Put out into deep water, and let down the nets for a catch.’…they caught such a large number of fish that their nets began to break.”
Why was Peter attracted to Jesus, to the extent that he was willing to leave his fishing business and follow him?
Peter witnessed the power of God. It is the power of God to heal, deliver, save, expose, empower and provide that demonstrates the reality of God and confirms his Word.
Has anything changed?
Jesus said, “…these signs will accompany those who believe…” (Mark 16:17)
Why would we minimize the confirming power of signs and wonders?
Perhaps because we have limited personal experience with them or have seen them become the focus.
Is there a connection between “…Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed.” (Luke 5:16), and “…the power of the Lord was present for him to heal the sick.” (Luke 5:17)
Are we willing to withdraw from the crowds for regular prayer so that we too can see God’s Word confirmed by his power?
There are Peters', James’ and Johns’ around watching to see if Jesus and his gospel are worth following.
Lord Jesus, I repent for minimizing the power of your spirit and prayer in my life. I desire to walk in the fullness of your gifts and fruit as I follow you in mission.
