Loved and Sent
Mark 1:11, 12
“…a voice came from heaven: ‘You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased.’ At once the Spirit sent him out into the desert…being tempted by Satan.”
Jesus received public affirmation of his identity and his Father’s love for him. We were made to know our heavenly Father’s love for us. We too must find our identity in the knowledge that we are God’s children, rather than the world’s. Because the Father loved Jesus he sent him to the desert for testing by Satan. Satan served a purpose in God’s training of his Son for public ministry. The awareness that temptation is not meant to destroy us, but to build our spiritual muscles, can give us greater faith and boldness as we too face our “tests in the wilderness.”
Jesus, you are the example of living in the Father’s love and resisting Satan’s lies. I pray for your Spirit to fill and guide me today.
