Coming Home
My song, “Coming Home,” is a simple song of repentance. It’s a confession that I chase after too many things that simply don’t satisfy my soul. The world offers countless empty promises of fulfillment, and often I am quick to receive those promises. The result is the same every time: I’m left empty. Our hearts long for far more than this world can offer us.
You’ve likely read the story of the prodigal son. His story belongs to each one of us. We venture out on our own, time and time again, seeking after the mirage of fulfillment offered by sin. In the short term, we enjoy ourselves and maybe even think the fulfillment will last. Before long, though, the sins turn on us, and we’re trapped by the very things we thought would free us.
I don’t know what you struggle with. Maybe it’s pornography, alcoholism, or materialism. Perhaps it’s something different. I can tell you two things that all of our hangups and bad habits have in common. The first is that they never deliver on their promises to satisfy. The second is that God is waiting with open arms, ready to forgive and embrace us if we’ll simply ask.
The bridge of “Coming Home” says, “I’m a wandering soul who’s found the truth. My restless heart can only rest in You.” I’ve found that to be true, time and time again. Today, let’s chase after our Lord and Savior, not the world’s empty promises.
