Pray For Others
How do you become a yes person? You pray for others. Praying for others brings a yes to you. Interestingly, in this scripture, Jesus does not say, “Okay, let’s all step out, let’s go for it.” He doesn’t command, like a military leader, “Everybody, charge!” What Jesus says instead is: “I do not want you to reach out before you have looked up. I do not want you to go out before you have gone up. I want you to pray. I want you to pray that God would send workers out in the field.” Jesus is not asking you and me to pray for ourselves; He is asking us to pray for somebody else.
Pretend you are in business, and that you pray, not for yourself, but for other men and women in business this week, that they would make a difference through their work. So you pray, “Lord, I want to pray for all the business people. I want to pray, God, that they would make a difference. That they would realize it is not just about making money, it is about You placing them in a position of influence. I pray that business people would take the opportunity to share Jesus Christ when it is appropriate and bless their associates. I pray for the business community in this city to be difference makers for good and for God.”
When you start praying that way, as a person in business, guess what happens? You ask, “How can I pray for everyone else to do this if I am not doing it?”
If you are a teacher, pray for teachers. If you are a principal, pray for principals. If you are an administrator, pray for administrators. As you begin to pray, now you want to be a part of it, because your heart is moved. Pray for missions and you will end up going. Pray for America and you will vote. Pray for your family, and you will grow in love. Pray for your church and you will begin inviting people here. Pray for the harvest and you will begin to share.
Do you see what God does? When you begin to pray for yes people, you can become a yes person. You can be a difference maker.
Pray: Lord, stoke my heart through prayer.
