God, I Pray For My Kids

DAY 5 OF 5

God, Give My Child Hope

Hope. It’s a beautiful word, isn’t it? In fact, Paul uses it in our verse today as a name of God. God is the only long-lasting source of hope; He is the only One who can provide meaning in life and in death. In this verse, Paul prays a powerful statement about what God can do in the heart of all believers, including children. He says that hope is possible—for the present and for the future.

He asks for the God of hope to fill his listeners with joy and peace as they trust Him. What’s the result? God will give abundant hope through the power of the Holy Spirit. There’s a cause and effect here. Paul doesn’t ask God to simply dump hope on them or sprinkle hope from a heavenly salt shaker. Instead, he asks that as these believers trust in God, their faith will result in joy and peace. Who brings the hope and how does it come? Paul asks for the Holy Spirit to fill them with hopefulness straight from God Himself!

What a great prayer to pray for our children! May our God of hope bless them as they trust in Him.

Suggested Prayer:

God of hope, I cry out to You today for my children. May You fill them with all joy and peace as they trust in You, so that they may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. I know that this isn’t regular human-created hope or a feeling of hopefulness. This hope of your Spirit is spiritual hope—a sure foundation that You keep your promises. May my children have that confident assurance of Your love and salvation.

Father, we also pray for children around the world who lack hope. Maybe their circumstances are so dire and that makes hope seem impossible. Help them see that with You, everything is possible. Grant them Your hope, Your confident assurance!

Over the last week, you have prayed for children around the world who live in difficult circumstances. Everyone at Compassion International would like to thank you for your heart in standing in the gap for children in need. If you would like to help in another way, we invite you to sponsor a child  and share the hope of Jesus with them.
