AbandonSample
It was my freshmen year of high school and I was going to my Homecoming dance. I had a gorgeous dress, my hair done, and my youth group decided to go to dinner and the dance together. I was so excited. We finally got there, the music was blaring, the lights were dim, and the school was completely transformed. Then it happened. I was abandoned.
My friends didn’t mean to abandon me; they just went into their everyday routine. I, on the other hand, was home-schooled and only attended the school for choir a few times a week. I knew how to get to the choir room and the parking lot. I searched everywhere for a familiar face, but when there are close to 1000 students in the school, it’s hard. I remember feeling completely alone. I called my mom in tears. I wanted to leave.
That hurt of abandonment doesn’t leave easily; it can build if we let it. Your friend bails on you, your parents separate, you are left out of the plan. Each time we are left out, that feeling just keeps building until you feel totally and hopelessly alone and abandoned. That is, until you find that you were never really alone.
Hebrews 13:5 (NLT) tells us, “I will never fail you or abandon you”. God tells us he will never abandon us. No matter what happens, what we do, where we are, God is forever there next to us. People may fail us, hurt us, and abandon us, because we are all human. We are selfish and sinful. But the God who created the heavens and earth promised us He will never abandon us. We may not always feel Him next to us, but His promise is never-failing and never-ending.

About this Plan
What does it mean to FEEL abandoned? How can we help those who ARE abandoned? What do we NEED to abandon? For this youth study, we will talk about God's heart for the abandoned, and what we as followers of Christ need to do about it.
