Read To Me Daily Semester 2Sample
NUMBERS 33:
Yesterday in Numbers, we heard how the tribes of Gad, Reuben, and half the tribe of Manasseh promised to go ahead of their fellow Israelites into battle on the west side of the Jordan, because they were receiving land on the east side of the Jordan. In hindsight, I must say this was not a great idea. Because of how often all the men were required to go to Jerusalem for the holy assemblies, it must have been very easy to not attend those events and grow increasingly far from the Lord.
PSALM 46:
Today’s famous psalm, Psalm 46, was the inspiration for the hymn A Mighty Fortress Is Our God. God is likened to two things that would help someone in battle. The first is a refuge, or a shelter. And the word translated fortress or protector has the literal meaning of ‘secure height’.
ACTS 5b:
Yesterday we heard the sobering story of Ananias and Sapphira. Any pastor or church official or any Christian charitable agency or missionary who misuses money given for the Lord’s work commits the same sin.
Just when God was using the apostles to perform many miracles, they were arrested.
Let's pray together.
Our awesome and holy God, please have mercy on us! We read in Psalm 44, that if we stopped worshipping You, our God, and started praying to a foreign god, You would discover it, because You know our secret thoughts. That is so true! And we see in Peter's words that our dishonesty doesn't just come from ourselves. Lord, help us to be aware when Satan is tempting us! Please keep us from allowing him to take control of our hearts. Ananias’ lie happened at that time where there was such unity and joy among the believers, and your power was being displayed. He thought he could lie to the Holy Spirit. But a verse in the book of Hebrews says of You, Lord God, There is nothing that can be hidden from You. Everything in all creation is exposed and the lies open before your eyes, and it is to You that we must give an account of ourselves. Lord, we thank You that through Jesus— and only through Him, can we hope to be able to come before You and not be destroyed. Lord, we open our whole heart to You now. We ask You to clean us in every area of our hearts. Help us to take action step by step to be pure and honest before You, starting today.
