Your Spiritual Life: Devotions From Time Of GraceSample
Who says?
Next to the content of your religious faith, the next most important question in your entire life is the authority behind your information. It is our curse to live in an age where truth is thought to be relative, i.e., variable from one person to the next. There are no absolutes, we’re told. Everyone must set up his or her own guidelines for truth and morality.
God loves you more than that. Next to the gift of his Son, Jesus, his gift of his Word is the most valuable. In clear and eloquent language, the Bible tells you of God’s mighty acts in human history, describes your origin, your purpose, your miserable dilemma, and his stunning rescue. You don’t have to invent your own faith--you can just watch God work and listen to his voice tell you how you fit into his master plan.
Scripture speaks highly of the people in the Macedonian town of Berea because of the reception they gave Paul on his second mission journey: “Now the Bereans were of more noble character than the Thessalonians, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true” (Acts 17:11).
I hope you have come to trust your pastor, that he has earned your confidence. But be a Berean too--dig into your Scriptures to see for yourself if what he says is true.
