Wild Life—Start Really LivingSample
If You Seek Me
What if God isn’t trying to play hide-and-seek with us? What if He doesn’t want it to be super complicated to find Him?
What if relationship with Him is so much more personal than a set of boxes to check off each day? Maybe God put deep joys and passions in us that can guide us back to Him.
Let me explain. I’d never dream of asking my two-year-old daughter to jump through hoops to find me. In fact, when she cries out to me, I come running. And how much more loving is our heavenly Father? When my daughter delights in things that I delight in, I see myself in her. In Matthew 7, Jesus says our heavenly Father is like that, too.
Prayer, reading the Bible, praise and worship—they’re all vital parts of knowing God, but He isn’t limited to those things. God’s presence is so much bigger than we can even imagine. You can experience Him if you’ll just pay attention to the bits of Himself that He placed inside you.
For me, it’s rock climbing, gardening, playing with my daughter, and loving my wife, Erin. For instance, through gardening, I understand the importance of being planted in the right place, of receiving the right kind of nourishment, and even the ways storms can force roots to dig deep. All of these passions can expose me to aspects of God when I seek Him there, when I use all of my heart to seek Him.
Pay attention to what brings you deep joy. Yes, experience God in the quiet moments, in Scripture, and in prayer, but also seek Him in the laughter, the relationships, the adventures, the sweat, the work, and even the tears. Because when you seek Him with all of your heart, you will find Him.
