“I Am” Devotional
Crowder
When you doubt your worth, hold onto the promises of God. He has told you who you are and He has not lied. Your sin is as far as the east is from the west (Psalm 103:12). Guilt and shame roam this earth to destroy you. They can take hold of an area of your life and it feels impossible to let it go. There is nothing you can do to rid the shame and guilt or whatever has a stronghold on your life at the moment, but there is someone you can know and hold onto: Christ.
I am, holding on to You/ I am, holding on to You
Who was Christ? It’s clearly demonstrated in the Gospels and one story in particular is important to remember when your world feels unstable and you are forgetting who you are because of it. The story is one we know well, when Jesus and the disciples were on a boat in the Sea of Galilee…“and behold, there arose a great storm on the sea, so that the boat was being swamped by the waves; but he was asleep. And they went and woke him, saying, ‘Save us, Lord; we are perishing.’ And he said to them, ‘Why are you afraid, O you of little faith?’ Then he rose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm” (Matt. 8:24-26).
In the middle of the storm/ I am holding on, I am
So who is Jesus according to this story? If the winds and sea respond to him, he is God. If he calms the storm when his followers cry out to him, he listens to our prayers.
There’s no space that His love can’t reach/ There’s no place where we can’t find peace/ There’s no end to amazing grace
It doesn’t matter where in the storm you are, Christ is there too. Right in the middle of it with you and whispering truth. There is no space that His love doesn’t reach. There is no end to God’s amazing grace. And you don’t have to do anything for this to be true in your life. Grace is in you and all around you; it is a shield for you. Paul explains the power grace has and the distance it goes in his letter to the Romans: “For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 8:38-39).
Whatever you are in the middle of, whatever has been done to you and whatever you have done, it does not change an ounce of who you are. It does not separate you from Christ’s love. So remember that in the storm and “hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful” (Heb. 10:23).
