We Believe - Devotions From Newsboysنموونە
“One Word” | Newsboys devotion
One word.
That’s all it took for the world to be created. God spoke it to life. With one word, He created man. And He declared all of His creation good. With one word, He raised the dead to life. With one word, He freed the captives. With one word, He calmed the winds and seas. When He speaks, all of creation listens.
At your voice the blind begin to see / And the lame can walk, the captives are set free / A hardened heart can finally start to feel / Will you speak that same voice to me
His word carries weight, and we would be wise to listen for His voice. The same God who conquered giants and crowned a shepherd boy king is the same God who cares about the most mundane parts of our day. With one word, He can heal our disease. With one word, He can mend our brokenness. With one word, He can forgive our sins. His word is final and true, full of grace and power.
So, what’s stopping us from believing He will come through? Why do we not take Him at His word? Why do we not believe Him when He calls us by name? Throughout the Bible, He transformed the hearts of men and changed the trajectory of their lives by giving them a new name and a fresh start. Abram become Abraham. Saul became Paul. Simon became Peter.
With every word the world throws at us, God is quick to give a rebuttal, giving us a new name. The world calls us unworthy. God calls us beautiful. The world calls us unlovable. God calls us beloved. The world calls us inept. God calls us gifted.
I hear Your voice it whispers my name / And all at once You quiet my pain / If Your voice lit the sun / And night was overcome / You can speak and light up my world / With just one word
It’s in our Creator that we find our identity. We are etched with His essence, and it’s only through Him, the great I AM, that we find out who we truly are. We serve a loving God who calls us His. We can trust Him. We can take Him at His word.
