5 Days of Making Your Comeback

DAY 3 OF 5

DAY 3 – GOD GIVES SECOND CHANCES

There’s something about a prolonged crisis that drains the hope out of you. It’s like sitting in an emergency room and waiting for your name to be called, only to watch everyone else go in one by one. If you aren’t careful, your feelings will soon dominate your faith, and you won’t have the strength to get up when it’s time to move. You will lie face down under a pile of unmet dreams and expectations.

Consider a biblical hero, whose tenacity and faith brought her a comeback that should also inspire us all—Hannah. Her womb was closed; she was unable to have a child, and in that day, not having children meant a loss of security in old age, of societal acceptance and of legacy.

Year after year Hannah went up to the temple to pray. Her emptiness hadn’t stopped her from going to church, listening to sermons or seeking the spiritual life. She hung in there waiting for her change to come. But one day, it all became too much for her, and she broke down in desperation and wept.

She took her desperation to a priest, who after listening to her story, heard more than just her words—he heard her heart. He believed her, blessed her and told her that God would give her the child she longed for. For the first time, she felt happy and full of hope. But she did more than sit around and wait for God to send a stork with her special package. She acted on the truth that God was going to give her a son by pledging that child’s life in service to God.

Hannah’s pregnancy was much bigger than her. Your comeback is much bigger than you. God has a plan to influence others through you, and that’s why He will often let you get to the point where it’s clear He is the One who brought it about. But that will not happen without action tied to your faith. So, commit yourself in service to Him, and watch your comeback come to life.
