Daily Encouragementنموونە
It was a crowded scene, because “a large crowd’ was going along with Jesus and another “large crowd” was accompanying the widow of Nain as she took the body of her only son to the place of burial. The crowds met at the town gate and “the Lord saw her.” It was more than a casual glance - “his heart went out to her.” Then he dried her tears - not just with his words, “Don’t cry,” but also with his action, as he raised her son to life again.
“They were all filled with awe and praised God . . . they said, ‘God has come to help his people.’” And they were right. For God always has eyes for the widow in the crowd. He is “full of compassion” (Ps. 86:15, AV) and it is written of his people that “He will wipe every tear from their eyes” (Rev. 21:4). He is the One “who raises the dead” (2 Cor. 1:9). No one has ever seen him, “but the only Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, he has made him known” (John 1:18, RSV).
