This is “the river of the water of life, as clear as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb.” (Rev. 22:1)
Here is life for thirsty souls still “dead in sin.” Whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” (John 4:13)
Here is the dynamic for life and service. Our Lord was probably referring to this very passage when he said, “Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within him.” (John 7:38) Many Christians have entered into a new experience at this point. So D. L. Moody said, “I was all the time tugging and carrying water. But now I have a river that carries me.”
Here are depths for the mature to plumb: “deep enough to swim in.” (Ezek. 47:5) It is God’s desire to “strengthen [us] with power through his Spirit . . . to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ.” (Eph. 3:14-20)
Here is the source of revival blessing: “There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God.” (Ps. 3:14-20) An account of the 1859 Revival in Ulster, was entitled, God’s River in Spate.
