Day 20: The Present Moment
Read
Search for the Lord and for his strength; continually seek him. –1 Chronicles 16:11
Connect
God is always with you. Even as you read this, He is present—and He always has something to communicate to you.
In fact, at every moment of every day, you have unlimited access to Him and to all the grace He wants to give you.
So, what stops you from receiving it?
Sometimes, we miss what God has for us in the present moment because we’re preoccupied with the past.
We think about what did or didn’t happen, about all the things we wish we’d said or all the things we wish we hadn’t, in our relationships, at work, in public.
But …“Anyone who puts a hand to the plow and then looks back is not fit for the Kingdom of God.”–Luke 9:62
Other times, we aren’t focused on what God’s doing right now because we’re preoccupied with the future. We think about what we wish would happen—and we worry about whether it actually will. How will it all work out?
But Jesus said we don’t have to “worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today.” –Matthew 6:34
Yes, it can be difficult to let go of the past and the anticipation of the future—especially regarding intimate relationships. What has or hasn’t happened in them often hurts us. Not knowing what will happen next is a challenge.
The best way to move beyond the past and to prepare for the future—whatever God has for you—is to find peace in His unique gift to you: the present moment.
It is safe to entrust the past to God’s mercy and the future to His divine providence. He is 100% for you!
Clear a space in your mind and in your life for the graces God wants to give you right now.
Pray
Thank You, Lord, for Your mercy and Your providence, which make it easier for me to trust You with my past and my future. No matter what’s already happened and no matter what is to come, I treasure what I currently have: this moment, with You.
Reflect
What past event related to relationships do you think about most? What future event related to relationships do you think about most? Write a prayer that entrusts your past and your future to God—and then spend some time with Him in the present moment sharing your answers.

Take 40 days to look more deeply at the parts of your heart that need to be healed—so you can break the cycle of a broken heart and thrive in your singleness. While intimate relationships are designed to remind you of God’s love for you, living them out in a fallen world often results in wounds. This plan will help you move closer to Christ, in your pursuit of hope and healing.
