As You Go

Today, we focus on Jesus’ final words before His ascension, known as the Great Commission.

After His resurrection, Jesus gave this instruction to His eleven disciples. He commanded them to go and make more disciples, reflecting the intimate and transformative relationships He had with them during His ministry. For 2-3 years, Jesus prepared them to carry forward His mission.

The instruction is clear: as Jesus leads us, we are to lead others to Him. However, the word "GO" in the Great Commission is sometimes misunderstood. Many interpret it as a directive to leave one’s current location to evangelize. But a closer look reveals that this isn’t about a physical departure but a lifestyle of discipleship.

In the original language, the word "go" can be understood as “as you are going.” It implies ongoing, everyday action rather than a specific, one-time event. Jesus is calling us to live as disciples continually, making disciple-making an integral part of our daily lives.

A more contemporary paraphrase might read: “As you go through life, make disciples by baptizing them and teaching them everything I’ve taught you.” This shifts the focus from the act of going to the process of being a disciple wherever life takes you.

Discipleship isn’t confined to mission trips, Sunday services, or organized volunteer events. It’s about making every moment an opportunity to reflect Christ. Each day, as we walk with Jesus, we grow in His likeness, and disciples are made through our lives.

The key question to reflect on today is: “Does the light of Christ shine through you as you go?”

Jesus’ instruction is clear: as His disciples, we are to make more disciples in our everyday lives. This mission doesn’t require special training or public speaking skills—just a commitment to follow Jesus. As our hearts burn with love for Him, His Spirit naturally flows through us, impacting those around us.

Make disciples wherever life takes you—whether at work, in your community, or even during casual interactions. Our daily lives are filled with opportunities to share Jesus, not through grand gestures but through faithful, consistent living. The call is to make disciples as you go, every day, in every interaction, letting the light of Christ shine through you.
