Forgiveness Is...

DAY 8 OF 9

Forgiveness is letting go

Salaam!

Has someone ever hurt you and gotten away with it?

The hardest part of forgiveness is giving up our right to justice. It can feel deeply unfair if the person who hurt us might never face consequences. But I have good news: our God is a God of justice!

“He is the Rock, His works are perfect,
and all His ways are just.
A faithful God who does no wrong,
upright and just is He”. – Deuteronomy 32:4

The hard part is learning to trust God that He will bring justice in the end.

“The Lord reigns forever;
he has established his throne for judgment.
He rules the world in righteousness
and judges the people with equity”. – Psalm 9:7-8

Holding on to our own need for justice or, even worse, deciding to take justice into our own hands means missing out on the great blessings that come with forgiveness.

Think of it this way: insisting on justice before forgiving is like chasing a snake after it has bitten you instead of rushing to the hospital to remove the poison from your body.

The poison that comes from unforgiveness is like a snake’s venom inside you. It is much more harmful than the snake that got away! Trust that God will deal with the ‘snakes’ in your life. Trust that He, in His right time will bring justice; whether or not you will see that in this life, or the next, is up to Him.

Are you still chasing snakes?? If there is a vengeful desire for justice in your heart towards certain people, add their names to the list you made on day 1.

Take your time and go through the names individually and say, "______, I forgive you." You can do it!! Now, as a symbolic act of letting go, it is time to burn (or tear up) that list! How did that feel?

Hey! You are a Chamatkar.
