Forgiveness Is...

DAY 7 OF 9

Forgiveness is a journey

Salaam!

I once heard a message about everything that forgiveness is not. I found it super helpful in understanding forgiveness, and I’d like to share it with you today 😊

What is forgiveness not?

  • It is NOT forgetting what happened forgiving doesn’t mean you have to erase a memory from your mind or are never allowed to think about what happened. Pain needs time to heal and forcing yourself to forget won’t help that process. However, when you choose to walk in the attitude of forgiveness, you will notice that over time, the memory will start to fade.
He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds. – Psalm 147:3
  • It is NOT condoning the behavior – forgiving does not mean that you approve of the offense. Actions have consequences and sometimes a reaction is required, such as confronting the person or telling someone else, like a parent or supervisor.
If your brother or sister sins, go and point out their fault, just between the two of you … if they will not listen, take one or two others along. – Matthew 18:15-16
  • It is NOT Agreeing to Reconcile – forgiveness can be a great first step towards reconciliation. However, if the person who has hurt you shows no intention of change and continues to harm you, it’s okay to distance yourself.
The wise fear the Lord and stay away from evil– Proverbs 14:16
  • It is NOT Easy – you are an absolute star for choosing to forgive! I know it is not easy, but I am so, so proud of you for walking this journey!

These words ring truer today than ever: You are a Chamatkar!
