Lessons From the Book of Job

DAY 5 OF 7

There is a friend closer than a brother

Salaam!

How do you feel today? Yesterday, we took some time to share our raw and honest emotions with God. Do you feel relieved? I’d love to know!

Today I would like to take it a step further and talk about our anger issues 😬!

In Job 1:8, God Himself describes Job as blameless and upright, a man who fears God and shuns evil. But then, in Job 18:4, Job’s friends say of him, “You who tear yourself to pieces in your anger”!! It is evident that even the best of us fail at times. So let’s be honest. We’re not proud of it, but we lose our cool sometimes, right?

And if we think about it, the people closest to us are usually at the receiving end of our outbursts. Like Job, we’re much more likely to snap at our spouse, kids, parents, or close friends than total strangers.

I’ve got great news for you: God can handle your anger! Not only that, but He wants to be so close to you that you feel comfortable directing your anger at Him. He wants to be a friend who sticks closer than a brother (Proverbs 18:24).

You might wonder about the consequences of directing your anger towards God, but let’s learn from Job’s story. God did not condemn him; instead, He met Job in his anger, engaging in a dialogue that ultimately shifted Job’s focus from his misery to God’s unfathomable greatness. In the end, Job says:

I know that You can do all things and my ears had heard of You, but now my eyes have seen You” - Job 42:2-5

Directing your anger to God (instead of people) will ALWAYS draw you closer to Him.

Are there things you are angry about? Even angry with God? Share them with God, then read Job chapters 38 - 41, or any part of it, and take a minute to let God speak to your heart through His word today.

Hey! You are a Chamatkar.
