As a follower of Jesus Christ, you are the salt of the earth. In other words, you make the earth taste good, be better. Food without salt tastes blunt. Salt brings the needed flavour. It activates our taste buds and creates positive sensations in our taste area. You are also a light to the world. Whereas others walk in darkness, you can spend light and show others the way. Even one single light has a big effect on an otherwise dark room or surrounding. It might seem insignificant, but every single light can make a change. You are salt and light not by doing something special but by living according to the will of God. Jesus showed the way, and by following him and living a life that pleases him, you will be salt and light to the world.
Jesus encourages you in these verses that you should not hide away, but to be out there among the people, so they can see your good behaviour and how you glorify God, your heavenly Father, through your life.
How is your life? Are you salt and light to others? What are others saying about you? Do you behave the same as everybody else? Or do people say about you that there is something different about you? Is your life reflecting Jesus?
The early Christians lived a very different life from the normal people. They would take care of the poor, the sick, the widows, and orphans. They followed the law, kept fellowship, and shared their belongings. They made the lives of people living around them better. People realized that those Christians were different, different in a positive way, and they wanted to find out why. New people came to know Jesus Christ daily because of the lifestyle of those first Christians.
Do you believe that this can happen also today?

About this Plan
Jesus left the church the vision of a movement when he challenged us to reproduce from our own Jerusalem into “Judea, Samaria and the end of the earth.” (Acts 1:8). For us to see a movement, we need every Christ follower to adopt Jesus' personal mission to “seek and save the lost.” (Luke 19:10). Evangelism is core to the mission of Jesus and essential to accomplishing his vision. This plan is part of a 5-week journey on the topic of Gospel X - Multiply the gospel
