The Bible OverBrew - Bible in a Yearنموونە
Week 16. Day 2. 2 Kings 15-17.
Note the characteristic sins of the different kings in this section, as noted in the intro to this week’s readings.
2 Kings 16 Ahaz king of Judah is threatened by the king of Syria.
- Where does Ahaz turn for support? (v7-8)
- What other sin does this alliance then lead to? (v10ff)
The book of Isaiah will present Ahaz as a picture of the folly of looking to other nations (idols) for support, not trusting God. Ahaz’s false trust ends up leading to false worship, as he builds a pagan altar in the temple.
2 Kings 17 Fall of Israel (the Northern kingdom) in 722 BC.
- Who attacks Israel? (v6)
- Why did Israel get taken into exile? (v7-23)
v24-41 The resettlement of Samaria (capital of Northern Kingdom) This led to those in Samaria becoming ethnically and religiously compromised. This helps us understand the difficult relationship between Jews and Samaritans in the gospels.
NOTE: Days 1-5 of each week contain the scripture reading for that week. Day 6 has just the 'key chapters'. If you want a briefer version of this plan that still takes you through the whole Bible, you could just read the key chapters featured on day 6. Day 7 has the podcast video where we discuss the week's reading.

About this Plan
The Bible OverBrew is a friendly virtual book group, helping you read the Bible in big chunks, preferably with a mug of tea! Maybe you've tried to read through the Bible before, but gave up when it felt confusing or too intense? We are here to help you! We provide notes and questions to guide your reading, and note ‘key chapters’ if you don’t have time to read it all. In our podcast at the end of each week we draw out the key themes, and how it all points to Christ. We’d love you to join us!
