God allows Satan to test Job by causing him to tragically lose his wealth, family, and health in rapid succession. In three cycles of heated debate, Job and his friends dispute the cause of his suffering and God’s administration of justice. Relying on experience, tradition, and assumption, the three friends try to convince Job that his suffering is evidence of his sin, which must be confessed. Job continues to adamantly defend his innocence.
