The Promised Savior Arrives

DAY 4 OF 5

Love

The Wise Men

Listen to: The Wise Men

“They bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasure chests and gave him gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh.”

Reflect:

Think of the best gift you’ve ever given. What made that gift so wonderful to give? How much time, energy, or money did it cost you to give that gift? One way we express our love to others is giving gifts, especially when celebrating birthdays and Christmas. The wise men traveled far to give extravagant gifts to the Promised Savior. It was costly for them to give such gifts. But no matter how extravagant or costly these gifts were, they don’t compare to the greatest gift ever given.

God gave the greatest gift to show how much He loves us. In giving us His Son Jesus, God bridged the gulf that separated us from Him and brought us back into a right relationship with Him. What greater love is there?!

Love compelled God to give extravagantly. In what way does God’s love compel you?

Spend time meditating on the gift that God has given you. If you were to write God a thank you card for His extravagant gift of love, what would you say?

  • How might God be leading you to express love this Advent season?
