The Birth of Jesus
Listen to: The Birth of Jesus:
“He will save His people from their sins.”
Reflect
The people waited hundreds of years for the fulfillment of Isaiah’s prophecies for the Promised Savior. They longed for a Jewish king to conquer the Roman empire. They longed for peace. Peace can refer to a ceasefire or the end of a war. Or it can describe calm tranquility.
When Mary heard the angel’s message, she probably felt uncertainty more than peace. Joseph, too, struggled with the unexpected situation. How did the angel’s messages give peace to Mary and Joseph? The baby in Mary’s womb would be the king that God promised would rule forever.
Our sin has separated us from God, which is why we don't experience true peace. But Jesus' life and death opened the way for peace with God. Jesus saves us from our sin. And not only that, He is with us. There's nothing else that could give more peace than that.
- In what way do you lack peace in your life?
- How does this story bring you peace?
- Turn over to the Lord all that is stealing your peace and relax in His presence.
