The Place of Prayer in a Christian School

DAY 3 OF 4

WHAT TO PRAY

PRAY FOR THE SPIRITUAL AND ACADEMIC DEVELOPMENT OF LEARNERS

No one can come to know Jesus and be saved except the Holy Spirit draws them. This is where praying for the salvation of souls is the most important aspect of praying in a Christian School. One of the lessons that I learned so succinctly in Christian Education is the fact that every child is born a sinner (Psalm 51:5). If learners are to come to the saving knowledge of our Lord Jesus and make Him Lord over their lives, we must pray. We are charged to intercede for children that Christ be formed in them (Galatians 4:19). In the place of prayer, we see children come to love Jesus and grow in Him. We must pray consistently and fervently to see their lives transformed. Because the desires of the flesh and the desires of the spirit war against each other (Galatians 5:17), there are times when some children desire to serve God but find themselves not serving Him and “getting in trouble” like we say in school settings. The way to connect these children to God is through praying, correction, and counseling.

Parents send their children to Christian Schools expecting that their children will become both academically and spiritually sound. In the pursuit of Academic excellence, we need to pray for the Spirit of wisdom, knowledge, counsel, might, and quick understanding. Isaiah 11:3 (KJV) says, “And shall make him of quick understanding in the fear of the Lord: and he shall not judge after the sight of his eyes, neither reprove after the hearing of his ear”

Practice: Pray for the salvation of unsaved students in your classroom or school. Pray that they will see the light of the gospel (2 Corinthians 4:4).

About this Plan

The Place of Prayer in a Christian School

In this 4-day devotional, Adun Akinyemiju, Director of the Association of Christian Schools International (Africa), shares the importance of prayer in Christian education. Rooted in Mark 10:13-16, the plan emphasizes Christian schools as vital to God’s kingdom agenda. Through prayer, we align with God’s will, opposing darkness and nurturing students who know and love the Lord. Join us as we seek God's guidance and strength to fulfill His mission through Christian education.
